Stop Listening and Watching Bad Birth stories!

They are everywhere. And well intentioned friends are possibly telling you theirs right now.

I feel for the people that didn’t have good birth experiences. And they might have “done everything right”. And their births deserve to be honored. However, it does not help you prepare for your own.

Their birth has absolutely nothing to do with you though. What happened to them will not happen to you. You get to create your own story.

When we watch or listen to birth that evoke concern or fear, then our mind can ruminate on that. If that is what is filling our mind as we head into labor, once we are in labor we may recall stories or images that we were told or saw. Then our mind might start worrying or thinking, “Oh no, it is going to happen to me”.

Instead, we should be educating ourselves on the process of birth. We should be learning how we will navigate the ups and downs of labor. We should learn coping techniques and breathing techniques that will help ease labor. Our partner should be educated on how to support us.

There are positive birth stories everywhere too. I could tell you 4 of my own! And I would be there are people in your life that have them as well! We watch some of the most incredible births in class.

People email me the morning after they have their baby to tell me how great it was. They flag me down in the grocery store with the biggest smile on their face because it was just that good!

“If you change the way you view birth, the way you birth will change.” - Marie Mongan, Founder of HypnoBirthing

There is no reason you can’t strive for the most beautiful and positive experience ever. With the right preparation it is absolutely possible!
