Prodromal Labor And Precipitous Labor

Do you know about the two P's of labor?⠀

𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗟𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿 - Labor that stops and starts before active labor begins.

Labor patterns can be consistent for hours and then goes away. Usually it is not progressing dilation. This can happen for hours, days or even weeks.

𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝘆? 𝗜𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗯𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

• 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘅𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗲𝘀⠀

𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗟𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿- Labor is 3 hrs or less.⠀

A sudden onset of labor. Contractions are immediately consistent. The intensity is high and can be difficult to cope with.⠀

𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝘆? 𝗕𝗮𝗯𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝗶𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. 𝗠𝗼𝗺 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗵𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗱 𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝘀.

Both of these types of labors can be difficult. There could be many factors and often we won’t know why it happens.

While they are both physically challenging, it can be even more mentally challenging. Having tools and techniques to rely on can help you during these unpredictable labors.
